The Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command’s Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, has stated that regardless of the prevailing economic conditions, the Command raked in N15,911,581,116.72 revenue in October and November 2024.
Oramalugo made this disclosure on Friday at a press briefing held at the Command’s Operational Headquarters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He said the amount represented 33.57 per cent when compared to the sum of N11,912, 219,301.19 (Eleven billion, nine hundred and twelve million, two hundred and nineteen thousand, three hundred and one naira and nineteen kobo) collected as revenue in the same period of 2023.
Oramalugo said the Command had cumulatively generated N72,568,409,802.02 (Seventy-two billion, five hundred and sixty-eight million, four hundred and nine thousand, eight hundred and two naira and two Kobo) for the period covering January through November 2024.
According to him, the amount represented a significant increase of 13.17 per cent when compared to the sum of N64,118,678,267.69 (Sixty-four billion, one hundred and eighteen million, six hundred and seventy-eight thousand, two hundred and sixty-seven naira, sixty-nine Kobo), collected as revenue in the same period of 2023.
Oramalugo said the Command, by adopting modern trade facilitation tools and promoting transparency, had strengthened compliance among excise stakeholders, ensuring that revenue leakages are effectively curtailed, as according to him, the collected revenue contributes significantly to national development and supports the Federal Government’s economic agenda.
Giving a breakdown of the anti-smuggling achievements, Oramalugo said the Command seized 110 (50kg) bags of foreign parboiled rice with duty paid value (DPV) of N9,680,000.00; 4,000 packs of foreign Macaroni with DPV of N144,000,000.00; 377 (25-litre kegs totalling 9,425 litres) of Premium Motor Spirit with DPV of N7,464,600.00; 111 bales of second-hand clothing with DPV of N79, 920,000.00; 348 pieces of used tyres with DPV of N33,408,000.00.
Other seizures include 50 cartons of banned and unlicensed Chloroquine Injections with a DPV of N7,500,000.00; 01 DAF Truck with a DPV of N80,000,000.00 and 01 Mitsubishi Canter (means of conveyance) with a DPV of N8,800,000.00.
“I would like to emphasise that these seizures underscore the Command’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s economy and ensuring compliance with fiscal and trade policies.
