The Federal Government’s investigative panel on Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has submitted its report to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The panel, established three weeks ago, was tasked with probing allegations that Bobrisky bribed officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to avoid serving his prison sentence.
Headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, with Dr. Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), as its secretary, the panel presented its findings on Monday. The 109-page report dismissed claims that Bobrisky evaded his prison term, confirming that he indeed served his sentence from April 12 to August 5, 2024.
Dr. Agomoh stated, “The panel did not find any evidence that Mr. Okuneye spent time outside the custodial center during his sentence.” However, the panel uncovered that Bobrisky, along with former pension boss Abdulrasheed Maina, received special privileges while incarcerated. It recommended disciplinary actions against the prison officials involved in granting these privileges.
Further details are expected shortly.
