EFCC Intensifies Probe on Former Buhari Ministers Over Alleged Fraud

Former ministers who were close allies of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari during his tenure are facing heightened scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of multi-billion naira fraud.

The EFCC has set its sights on several key figures who have been repeatedly implicated in various corruption allegations.

Among those under investigation are former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, both of whom wielded significant influence during Buhari’s presidency.

Some of these former ministers are suspected to have fled the country in an attempt to evade arrest and prosecution.

Close associates and family members of the former ministers have already been detained and questioned by EFCC operatives, with their assets and bank accounts subjected to close monitoring due to suspected irregularities.

Malami, in particular, faces serious allegations, including the distribution of car gifts worth over N1 billion to supporters in Kebbi State ahead of the 2023 elections, as well as involvement in the illegal auctioning of seized crude oil vessels and questionable financial transactions.

Sirika is also facing scrutiny for allegedly spending exorbitant amounts on projects such as logo design and the purchase of fire trucks during his time as Minister of Aviation.

Relatives of both former ministers have been implicated in the alleged misappropriation of public funds through inflated contracts and other illicit activities.

The EFCC is also reportedly preparing to bring charges against former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, and several other top officials of the ministry following ongoing investigations.
