A 29-year-old woman, Janet Amos, on Monday, appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N3.483 million under false pretences.
Amos, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretences and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Oct.1, 2022, in the Odonla area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
Famuyiwa said that the defendant obtained the sum of N3.483m from the complainant, Mrs Monsurat Arowoshegbe, with the pretext to sell drums of palm oil to her, knowing full well to be false.
The prosecutor added that the defendant also converted the money to her personal use.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 314(1) and 280(1)(B) and are punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr A.O. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Ogbe noted that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, with evidence of three years of tax payment.
The magistrate adjourned the case till April 13 for mention.
