The Supreme Court has rejected the Allied Peoples Movement’s (APM) challenge contesting Kashim Shettima’s selection as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate in the most recent presidential election.
After the appellant’s attorney, Chukwuma Majukwu Umeh, requested to have the appeal dismissed, a seven-member panel led by Justice John Okoro issued the decision.
Members of the panel remarked that the appeal was frivolous when it was brought up because the Supreme Court had already ruled that Shettima was duly nominated in the case of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) v. INEC and others.
Umeh was directly questioned by Justice Okoro about what, if anything, he believed his client would gain from the case’s resolution other than to put more pressure on the court.
When Justice Okoro insisted that the appeal had no utilitarian value, Umeh changed his mind about trying to set his client’s case apart from that of PDP v. INEC and others.
