We Regret Campaigning for Tinubu — Veteran Actor Alapini Speaks Out

Veteran Nollywood actor, Ganiu Nofiu, popularly known as Alapini, has expressed deep regret over his decision to support and campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

In a recent interview on African A-List, the respected Yoruba movie star opened up about the disappointment he and many of his colleagues have faced since the election, citing unfulfilled expectations, lack of recognition, and worsening conditions in the country.

Alapini revealed that he, along with over 100 actors from the Yoruba film industry, abandoned their professional work for nearly two months to actively campaign for Tinubu. He noted that their motivation was not financial gain, but genuine belief in Tinubu’s leadership, based on his past contributions to Lagos State and the Yoruba entertainment industry.

“We supported and committed ourselves to the campaign thinking our Messiah had come,” Alapini said. “We did everything out of love and hope for a better Nigeria.”

However, the actor lamented that nearly two years into Tinubu’s administration, their efforts have gone unacknowledged. “We were not compensated or even recognised. Probably they are not yet in the right frame of mind to do so,” he said.

He also criticised the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, for allegedly focusing his philanthropic gestures on Northern Nigeria while neglecting the Southwest.

“Seyi is running around the northern part of Nigeria to pay their hospital bills. Aren’t there sick people in Yoruba land too?” Alapini queried. “How many hospitals has he visited in Yoruba land?”

The actor’s remarks come amid widespread public frustration over Nigeria’s economic challenges and rising insecurity, further fueling debate about the current administration’s performance and priorities.
