Controversial Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reportedly been apprehended by Nigerian police operatives in Abuja. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest in a series of tweets on May 2.
The arrest is said to stem from VDM’s public criticism of a new-generation bank, accusing it of unauthorized transactions from his mother’s account. Adeyanju disclosed that VDM was taken into custody at Area 3 in Abuja.
In his tweet, Adeyanju expressed outrage over the incident, calling the arrest “absolutely unacceptable” and asserting that demanding accountability is not a crime. He added, “VDM arrested by the police at a bank. Spoke to them before he was arrested. This is absolutely unacceptable.”
Further details revealed that VDM was apprehended alongside a friend, identified as C Park, though his mother was left unharmed. Adeyanju vowed to take legal action, stating, “We will sue the bank and the security agencies responsible for the arrest of VDM if he’s not released immediately.”
The arrest has raised concerns about freedom of expression and accountability in Nigeria, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the detention of the outspoken activist.
