Colombian pop star Shakira has been hospitalised in Peru due to a stomach issue, leading to the cancellation of her scheduled concert in Lima on Sunday.
The singer announced the news via social media, expressing her disappointment over the unforeseen development.
“I’m sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and I’m currently hospitalised. The doctors taking care of me have let me know that I’m not well enough to perform tonight,” Shakira wrote.
Shakira had arrived in Lima on Saturday for her first performance in the city in over a decade, where she was warmly received by hundreds of fans at the airport.
“I hope to be better by tomorrow and that they release me from hospital as soon as possible to be able to put on the show that I’ve prepared for you all,” she added.
The singer, known globally for hits like Hips Don’t Lie and La Tortura, kicked off her tour in Brazil last week. Her next show in Lima is scheduled for Monday, pending her recovery.
