Grammy-nominated Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti has expressed strong reservations about the moral standing of Nigerian politicians, stating that he would willingly leave heaven if he found any of them there.
In a recent Instagram live session, Kuti criticized the perceived hypocrisy of politicians who, despite widespread allegations of corruption, still aspire to make it to heaven.
“Despite how corrupt Nigerian politicians are, they still want to make heaven,” he said. “Yemi Osinbajo is also a pastor. With everything that is happening in this country, these politicians still want to go to heaven.”
Kuti further suggested that if Nigerian politicians were admitted into heaven, it would cast doubt on the integrity of the afterlife.
“If I died and the Christian and Muslim fantasy heaven happens to be true, and I see that people are actually going to heaven—if I see one single Nigerian politician there, I will go outside. Because that would mean that there’s corruption in heaven,” he stated.
Seun Kuti, the son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, is known for his outspoken views on governance, social justice, and corruption in Nigeria. His latest remarks reflect his long-standing criticism of political leadership in the country.
