Ruger Mocks Headies Awards’ ‘Credibility’

0

Afrobeats star Ruger has taken a veiled jab at the Headies Awards following the announcement of nominees for the 17th edition of the event.

In a post on his X account, the singer expressed what appeared to be sarcastic praise for the organisers, calling the Headies the “most credible award event in the whole world.”

The nominations, released earlier this week, sparked widespread debate over the omission of certain popular artists and projects. Ruger’s comment is believed to be a reaction to these exclusions.

“Shoutout to the most credible award event in the whole world, THE HEADIES. Thank you for recognising the hard work of ALL ARTISTS and ALL PROJECTS. Very soon, you will be bigger than all the awards in the whole world. Amen,” he wrote.

While some fans interpreted the post as genuine appreciation, many others quickly identified the sarcasm, with some agreeing that the Headies Awards need to improve their nomination process to avoid overlooking deserving talents.

The Headies Awards, which celebrate excellence in the Nigerian music industry, have faced criticism in past editions over similar controversies.
