Tembu Ebere, a Nigerian man, has revealed that he went half blind while attempting to cry for seven days to set a Guinness World Record.
This happened as the enthusiasm for achieving feats of endurance sweeps across the country, following the official breaking of the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) in May this year by a chef, Hilda Baci, with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.
Ebere, who acknowledged his health difficulties to the BBC, stated that he forced himself to cry for seven days for the record but was briefly blind in the process.
Ebere, who has been straining to cry nonstop for seven days, reported headaches, puffy eyes, and a swollen face, as well as going half-blind for 45 minutes.
“I had to re-strategize and reduce my wailing,” he told the BBC, adding that despite the obstacles, he was determined to cry for one week as planned.
Guinness World Records has observed an increase in record-breaking efforts from Nigeria in recent months, after the public attention generated by Baci’s cooking marathon.
