Nigerian actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji has shared the defining moments of his journey to success, revealing personal struggles and triumphs in both his professional and marital life.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Lateef recounted a pivotal encounter early in his career when a senior colleague in the Yoruba movie industry cast doubt on his future. The colleague boldly predicted that Lateef would fail within a year. However, undeterred by the skepticism, Lateef confidently responded, “Someone once told me in the Yoruba movie industry that he gave me one year to see what I would become. I told him to give me two years and he will see what I will become.”
Reflecting on this moment, Lateef emphasized his belief in self and his determination to prove his worth. This mindset has fueled his rise to prominence in the Nigerian film industry.
The actor also gave a candid glimpse into his personal life, particularly his unique and heartfelt proposal to his wife, Bimpe. Lateef shared that he proposed over the phone, calling her one morning and simply asking, “Will you marry me?” to which she joyfully said “Yes.”
Lateef expressed immense gratitude for his wife’s unwavering support throughout their journey together, especially in the face of public scrutiny. Despite enduring online trolling and hurtful comments, including accusations of infertility, Bimpe’s strength and resilience have been a source of encouragement for him. He revealed, “My wife and I have received a lot of trolls. Recently, someone called her barren on social media. She would always show it to me and say they would be all right.”
Looking back on his first major project, Lisabi, Lateef shared that it was a time of emotional vulnerability. Feeling abandoned by those he thought would support him, he found strength in his wife’s encouragement, which gave him the confidence to move forward with the project.
Lateef Adedimeji’s story is one of perseverance, love, and the power of belief—both in oneself and in the people who truly support you.
