Jude Okoye, former manager of the defunct music duo Psquare and elder brother to Peter and Paul Okoye, has been released from Ikoyi Correctional Centre after meeting bail conditions in an ongoing money laundering trial involving over N1.38 billion.
Okoye and his company, Northside Music Limited, are standing trial before Justice A. Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on a seven-count charge bordering on alleged laundering of N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on February 26, 2025, and was granted bail set at N100 million.
On March 3, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) amended the charge sheet, filing an additional four counts accusing Okoye of diverting music royalties meant for his brothers. The prosecution claimed that he misappropriated $767,544.15, £34,537.59, $133,566.49, and $118,652.20, allegedly depriving Peter Okoye of his rightful earnings.
Following the new charges, the court imposed an additional bail of N50 million, which Okoye had struggled to meet — resulting in his continued detention for over two months.
On Wednesday evening, Paul Okoye took to Instagram to confirm his brother’s release, sharing emotional footage of Jude reuniting with family members.
“Jude is finally out after 2 months. All their efforts to frustrate his bail have finally collapsed. Welcome home brother @judeengees — and happy birthday,” Paul wrote.
The trial continues, as the court delves into the financial dealings that have strained the relationship among the Okoye brothers, once united by music and now divided by legal battles.
