American rapper Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has responded to a civil lawsuit filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, accusing him of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 alongside disgraced music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. The lawsuit, which claims statutory rape, has been strongly denied by Jay-Z.
In a statement shared on his social media on Sunday, Jay-Z refuted the allegations, calling them “false” and accusing Buzbee of attempting to blackmail him. He further challenged the attorney to file a criminal complaint rather than a civil one, emphasizing that the gravity of the accusations warrants a criminal investigation.
“I will not be extorted,” Jay-Z wrote, asserting that Buzbee’s demand letter was a calculated attempt to leverage public scrutiny for financial gain. “It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a very public fashion.”
The rapper continued, imploring Buzbee to take the matter to criminal court, stating, “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away.”
The lawsuit follows recent legal troubles for Diddy, who was arrested in September by Homeland Security on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and interstate transportation for prostitution.
