Nigerian Afro-fusion star Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, has come under fire following an unexpected departure from the stage during his performance at the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 event held on Tuesday in Lagos.

The incident, which sparked widespread social media debate, began when a fan jumped onto the stage in an apparent bid to approach the Grammy-winning artist. Security personnel quickly intervened, removing the fan from the stage, while Burna Boy briefly paused his performance.

Moments later, the “Last Last” crooner stunned the audience by walking off the stage without offering any explanation, leaving fans in shock and disappointment.

Videos of the incident, which surfaced online on Wednesday, have ignited a flurry of reactions, with many criticizing Burna Boy’s actions.

On social media platform X, formerly Twitter, fans expressed their discontent. One user, Ibrahim Malcolm, tweeted: “Just pride and arrogance, somewhat disrespect to the very audience he’s ‘performing’ for.”

Another, Mezia Abia, shared, “If not pride, what is it? Someone paid you for a show, and you delivered halfway because a fan jumped on stage to touch you. I’m yet to understand the rationale behind his abrupt exit.”

Kodark Taylor echoed similar sentiments, labeling Burna Boy’s actions as “very rude.”

However, others came to the singer’s defense, citing his repeated warnings to fans against invading the stage during his performances.

A user identified as Logan Saman stated, “Why don’t people listen? He’s said it multiple times—don’t jump on stage when he’s performing. The fan is lucky it didn’t escalate further.”

Another, MANDU RIO, added, “Fans need to show respect. Loving an artist doesn’t mean ignoring boundaries.”

Despite the controversy, Burna Boy has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, leaving fans and critics alike awaiting clarification.

The #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 event, which also featured stellar performances from Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, and other top artists, was otherwise a night to remember for Lagosians.
