The family of Afrobeats sensation Asake has addressed the controversy surrounding the singer and his father, Fatai Odunsi, following allegations of neglect.
The dispute gained widespread attention after a viral video showed Mr. Odunsi appealing for financial assistance, revealing that he has been battling a stroke since 2022. He alleged that despite his worsening condition, Asake has ignored his calls and pleas for help.
In response, Asake took to TikTok with a cryptic Yoruba message, singing: “You can’t please everyone; you can’t please the world. But anything you are doing, just do it for God.” He further suggested that his father was attempting to manipulate him, stating: “My own father wants to cajole me, and I have sent so much money to him. I have struggled for so many years, but they want to make life tire me.”
Now, Asake’s family has spoken out in a video obtained by Vanguard on Saturday. In addition to urging the singer to take responsibility for his father’s well-being, they also accused him of neglecting an alleged 11-year-old daughter, Zeenat, and her mother.
A woman in the video made a direct plea to the artist, saying: “Ololade Mr. Money, even if Nigerians donate ₦10bn to this man, just ₦1m from you would make him happier. If you don’t want to support him directly, buy him a house in Isale Eko where he can earn rent to survive.”
The family also expressed their willingness to conduct a DNA test to confirm Zeenat’s paternity. As the controversy unfolds, all eyes remain on Asake for his response to these latest developments.
