The 2025 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is set to dazzle tonight at the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos. The annual event remains one of the most celebrated nights in African entertainment, bringing together the continent’s brightest stars to honour excellence in film and television.
All Glitz on the Red Carpet
As anticipation builds, the red carpet event promises to be a visual feast. Known for bold fashion statements and unforgettable looks, this year’s AMVCA red carpet is expected to uphold its tradition of elegance and spectacle. Past best-dressed winners such as Beauty Tukura and Osas Ighodaro are expected to grace the carpet with standout looks, with Ighodaro likely to top her widely praised appearance from last year.
Style icons like Simi Drey, Saga Adeolu, Chioma Goodhair, Nana Akua Addo, and Uche Montana—who stunned in a crimson-and-gold Veekee James ensemble last year—are also set to return with jaw-dropping fashion moments.
Streaming Originals Take Centre Stage
Showmax Originals are making a powerful showing this year, with three standout Nigerian titles—Princess on a Hill, Cheta M, and Style Magnate—earning eight nominations across six categories.
“Princess on a Hill” leads the pack, scoring nods for Best Scripted Series, Best Writing, and acting categories, with Bimbo Manuel and Efa Iwara in the running for Best Lead and Supporting Actor, respectively. The drama follows reality show winner Zara Osara as she navigates power and politics at the helm of a corporation.
Meanwhile, “Cheta M,” celebrated for its emotional storytelling and depth, earned recognition in writing and scripted series categories, thanks to the work of writer Ifeanyi Barbara Chidi. “Style Magnate” shines in the Best Unscripted Series category, bringing fashion and lifestyle flair to the awards stage.
This growing presence of streaming platforms reflects a shift in audience preferences and the rising influence of digital-first storytelling in Africa’s entertainment industry.
Tight Race in Major Acting Categories
The competition is fierce in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. Top contenders include Gideon Okeke, Stan Nze, and Bimbo Manuel for Best Actor. In the Best Actress category, veterans Hilda Dokubo and Chioma Chukwuka face off against rising stars like Uche Montana, Gbubemi Ejeye, Uzoamaka Onuoha, and Bimbo Ademoye.
As the spotlight turns to Lagos tonight, the AMVCA 2025 promises an evening of glamour, culture, and unforgettable storytelling. With a diverse lineup of nominees, digital innovation taking the stage, and Africa’s top talent in attendance, the ceremony reaffirms its place as a cornerstone of the continent’s cinematic excellence.
