Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Adekunle Gold, has expressed deep concerns about the current state of the country’s music industry, criticizing the influence of individuals he believes are not genuinely invested in the craft.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the award-winning artist lamented that the industry is being led by the “wrong hands,” which, he argued, has resulted in talented artists, producers, and other creatives being overshadowed.
He further noted that the dominance of individuals who neither create nor understand music has led to the promotion of misleading narratives, ultimately stifling talent and allowing mediocrity to thrive.
“People who have no business leading music conversations are now controlling and destroying the industry,” he wrote.
“Artists, producers, and real contributors are being overshadowed by people who don’t create, don’t understand, and don’t respect the craft.
“When the wrong people lead the conversation, they push the wrong narratives. That’s why real talent is overlooked, and mediocrity thrives. Congratulations to everyone involved.”
Adekunle Gold’s statement has sparked discussions among industry stakeholders and fans, with many weighing in on the ongoing challenges within Nigeria’s evolving music landscape.
