Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom was summoned by the EFCC on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, over alleged misappropriation of funds during his tenure as the Governor of Benue State. A source at the commission told The Punch that he entered around 10 am and has been there since then.
Ortom served as the governor of Benue State for two terms. He took office on May 29, 2015, and his term continued until May 29, 2023. During this time, he switched from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the end of his first tenure.
He was a strong critic of former president Muhammadu Buhari and constantly complained about the Fulani insurgency in Benue throughout his tenure.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Makurdi, summoned him this morning and he has been held for questioning since he got in.
