Operatives from the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended Abdullahi Yahaya and Ibrahim Haruna in Kaduna metropolis for their alleged involvement in currency counterfeiting.

During the arrest, authorities discovered $81,700 in counterfeit $100 bills in their possession.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media & Publicity at the EFCC, Haruna claimed during interrogation that the counterfeit dollars were given to him for safekeeping by an individual named Babangida, who is currently at large.

“Yahaya, on his part, admitted that he learned about Haruna’s possession of the fake dollars through one Kabiru, also at large, who connected him with Haruna to collect the counterfeit currency for delivery to a buyer at a predetermined location,” the statement said.

In addition to the counterfeit money, the suspects were found with a small quantity of a colorless substance, suspected to be mercury, which is allegedly used in the production of fake dollars.

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Oyewale added.
