The Kano State government has committed over N4.8 billion to improve primary education infrastructure and security across the state. Governor Abba Yusuf announced the disbursement of cheques totaling N1.9 billion to Chairmen of the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC) for renovating primary school classrooms in all 44 local government areas.
Additionally, N2.925 billion has been earmarked for constructing new classrooms in public primary schools. This initiative reflects Governor Yusuf’s dedication to addressing the state’s educational challenges.
A statement from the Governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature, highlighted the state’s strategic move to enhance security in educational facilities. The government plans to employ 17,600 security guards, with a minimum of 400 guards allocated to each local government area to protect public schools.
“This significant investment in the education sector reflects Governor Abba Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to realizing his vision of declaring a state of emergency in the education system,” the statement reads. “Investing in education is a pivotal step towards ensuring that quality education is accessible to every school-age child in Kano.”
Governor Yusuf acknowledged the vital role played by CRCs in fostering social integration and improving school enrollment and attendance rates. He pledged to empower community leaders to take ownership of the education system and protect public infrastructure. He urged CRC committees to collaborate closely with stakeholders and seek technical support from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for effective project implementation.
The Governor mandated that all new classroom blocks bear the inscription “Kwankwasiyya/Gida-Gida” as a tribute to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s significant contributions to public education in Kano.
Governor Yusuf also highlighted his administration’s achievements across various sectors over the past year and called on all stakeholders to harmonize their efforts to build a future founded on quality education for current and future generations.
