An attempt by a 29-year-old South African, Erasmus Jean-Pierre, to export 2.6 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in his luggage to the Middle East via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA Abuja, was foiled by NDLEA operatives, who arrested him and recovered the illicit drug.
NDLEA agents apprehended the suspect during the outbound clearing of passengers on Ethiopian Airlines aircraft ET 404 from Abuja to the Middle East through Addis Abeba, Ethiopia.
On Sunday, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed that he was captured last week at Abuja’s airport.
A comprehensive inspection of his luggage revealed the whitish powdered illicit substance factory packed in various places in the package.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect arrived in Lagos on Saturday 19th August via Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, came to Abuja on Tuesday 22nd August, and took possession of the brown bag containing the drug consignment on Wednesday 23rd August before heading to Abuja airport for his flight out of Nigeria.
