The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, claims to have simultaneously annihilated many criminal elements in various theaters of operation during the last few days. This was said by the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, on Sunday in Abuja.
Gabkwet stated that airstrikes in the Niger Delta Region were directed at the criminal operations of oil thieves, which had continued to harm the region’s general environment as well as the nation’s oil productivity.
He stated that on August 11, NAF aircraft operating under Operation Delta Safe conducted air interdiction missions at an illicit refining plant southwest of Bille, a coastal town in Rivers’ Degema Local Government Area.
Mr. Gabkwet stated that on the same day, similar airstrikes were also carried out on a well-known IPOB camp in Orsumoghu, Ihiala local government area, Anambra.
According to him, intelligence revealed that outlawed IPOB elements in makeshift camps were spotted in advance of a planned attack on innocent persons when the necessity to properly confront them came.
He stated that the airstrike was afterward carried out and deemed successful.
According to a NAF spokeswoman, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai carried out similar bombings the same day at a position around 1.5km east of Arra, a once-deserted terrorist refuge near Sambisa Forest.
He claimed that previous reconnaissance on the site had shown terrorists massing at a spot that had previously been cleared of terrorist activity roughly six months ago.
“There were strong indications that these terrorists had fled from areas around Lake Chad following intense bombardment by NAF aircraft.
“As a result, the location east of Arra was attacked in order to decimate the terrorists and prevent them from settling there and using it as a staging point.
“Footage of the strike’s aftermath revealed that it was successful, as several terrorists were neutralized and structures were destroyed, while the few surviving terrorists were seen scampering away in disarray.
“In the end, they lost their ability to attack friendly forces as well as innocent civilians.”
