HURIWA Gives President Tinubu 72 Hours to Arrest Asari Dokubo or Face Nationwide Protest

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a civil rights advocacy group, warned the federal government on Thursday that if Mujahid Asari Dokubo, a Niger Delta leader and former agitator, is not apprehended for illegally possessing assault rifles and endangering the lives and property of the Igbo people, protests will be organized nationwide in all states of the Federation.

“President Bola Tinubu’s administration has 72 hours to imprison Asari Dokubo,” the statement from HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, reads “Or he’ll be ready to face the massive protests that would resonate across the entire nation.”

According to the group, Asari Dokubo needs to be detained by the DSS or another security organization because of his alleged involvement in the violent phenomenon known as “unknown gunmen” in the South-East.

Remember, Asari Dokubo made shocking admissions earlier in June 2023 when he paid President Bola Tinubu a visit at the A Villa in Abuja.

“I am a participant in this conflict,” the ex-combatant declared. “In Plateau, Niger, Anambra, Imo, Abia, and Rivers, I battle for the Nigerian government. And right now, you’re taking this road from Abuja to Kaduna. You don’t go to Kaduna or Abuja because the army allows you to. It is my men who are stationed in Niger and are working for the Nigerian state administration that make it possible.”

Additionally, Asari Dokubo threatened to kill Igbos in a viral video because they backed Peter Obi of the Labour Party over Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the presidential election on February 25, 2023, which was the ex-militant’s preferred candidate.

The viral video, which media outlets have confirmed is real, shows Asari Dokubo brandishing AK-47 rifles in broad daylight, and it also claims that the ex-military should be arrested right now for smuggling guns and threatening to kill the Igbo people.

Asari Dokubo publicly pleaded with the President to withhold the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, to demonstrate his abiding hatred for the Igbo people.

HURIWA’s Onwubiko said, “The Nigerian Government must arrest Asari Dokubo now or the Federal Government is indirectly tasking Igbo youths, lovers of Igbo, and all groups that support the well-being of the Igbo people to begin peaceful protests simultaneously.

“HURIWA is giving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 72 working hours to order the arrest and investigation of Asari Dokubo over his suspected link to the violent phenomenon of unknown gunmen in the South-East or HURIWA will call our her members for a protest in Abuja next week over it.

“Illegality must not be allowed to continue whilst the security agencies pretend not to know or willfully not take action. Asari Dokubo must be arrested. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic.”
