On Tuesday, Felicia Afolabi, a representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), gave testimony in the case of Nsofor Kennedy Ugochukwu, also known as Ugochukwu Nsofor Chukwukadibia, a reputed multibillionaire drug lord.
The anti-narcotic agency’s forensic specialist Felicia explained to the court presided over by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa what she did when the defendant was taken into custody.
Nsofor Kennedy, the chairman of Automation Motors Limited, was charged with possessing and storing 5,340 kg of tramadol, a forbidden narcotic, in front of the court.
The offenses are against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act CAP N30 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 (as amended) and are penalized under its Sections 12 and 19.
The NDLEA forensic officer Felicia informed the court during the defendant’s resumed trial that she had received three types of exhibits while she was in her office.
She informed the court that the exhibits consisted of Tramadol samples weighing 225 grams, 250 grams, and 225 grams.
She further informed the court that an analysis of the exhibits revealed that Tramadol, a prohibited substance, was present.
Felicia also informed the court that she had written a report on her discovery and had sent it to the exhibit officer for storage in a huge brown sealed envelope.
Following the conclusion of the witness testimony, the court adjourned the continuation of the trial until September 29.
Sometime in November 2022, the defendant was initially arraigned before the court. He was granted bail in the amount of N100 million and one surety in the same amount after entering a not-guilty plea to the charge.
Charges against the defendant read: “that you Nsofor Kennedy Ugochukwu a.k.a. Ugochukwu Nsofor Chukwukadibia, male, adult, Nigerian citizen of Plot Z-130, Road 67 VGC Housing Estate, Lagos, on or about September 30, 2022, at about 1400 hrs within the jurisdiction of this honorable court without lawful authority caused the premises at Plot A45 Road 2, being the owner of same at same VGC Housing Estate to be used for purpose of storing 5,340 Kilograms of Tramadol, a substance similar to Cocaine, Heroin, and LSD and you thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 12 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act CAP N30 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 ( as amended).
“That you Nsofor Kennedy Ugochukwu a.k.a. Ugochukwu Nsofor Chukwukadibia, male, adult, Nigerian citizen of Plot Z-130, Road 67 VGC Housing Estate, Lagos, on or about September 30, 2022, at about 1400 hrs within the jurisdiction of this honorable court without lawful authority possessed 5,340 Kilograms of Tramadol, a substance similar to Cocaine, Heroin, and LSD and you thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act CAP N30 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 ( as amended).“
