Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been placed under remand in Kuje jail while his request for bail is processed, according to an order issued by Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja. Emefiele will stay behind bars until the court rules on his bail application on November 22.
Rotimi Oyedepo fiercely fought the bail motion made by his main attorney, Mathew Burkaa SAN, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Following the hearing of arguments for and against the application, Justice Muazu declared that the volume of authorities mentioned by the two sides precluded the delivery of a bench ruling.
The judge stated that he required some time to review the evidence provided by Emefiele to support his bail plea as well as to research the relevant authorities.
