The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Command, has achieved the conviction of four individuals, including a 21-year-old Cinematographer, Abiodun Ayomide from Ikirun, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, for offences touching on personation and internet fraud.

Others include Bello Damola Lateef of Ilorin, Kwara State, Azeez Ibrahim Olarewaju of Oyo State’s Ona-ara Local Government Area, and Aderoju Ridwan Kayode of Oshogbo, Osun State.

Abiodun and Bello were prosecuted separately before Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, as did Azeez and Aderoju before Justice Adenike Akinpelu of the same court.

The defendants entered guilty pleas to their charges.

Following their guilty pleas, the Commission’s prosecutors, Innocent Mbachie, Rashidat Alao, and Isabel Adeniran, examined the facts of the cases and produced exhibits, which were allowed in evidence. They requested the Courts to rule that the prosecution had established the necessary elements of the cases to condemn the defendants.

In his decision, Justice Yusuf sentenced Abiodun to six months in prison on each of the four counts, with an N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira Only) fine on each count.

The judge ruled that the convict’s 2007 Toyota Camry, $200 (Two Hundred United States Dollars) and N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira Only) compensation, as well as his HP laptop and iPhone 8 Plus, be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Bello was sentenced to six months in prison with the option of a fine of N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira Only) by Justice Yusuf. The court ordered that the Federal Government forfeit one iPhone 7 and one HP laptop used in the crime, as well as $500 (Five Hundred United States Dollars).

Similarly, Justice Akinpelu sentenced Azeez to three months in prison with a fine of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira Only). The defendant was ordered by the court to lose $200 (two hundred United States dollars) and one iPhone XR to the federal government.

Aderoju, on the other hand, was sentenced to six months in prison with a fine of N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira Only). The offender was ordered by Justice Akinpelu to lose his Lexus ES 350 automobile, N403,000 (Four Hundred and Three Thousand Naira Only), iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone XR, and HP laptop to the Federal Government.
