Following reports of numerous shootings at three different places, the Maine State Police announced they are looking into the possibility of an active shooter situation in Lewiston, Maine, in the United States.
Several law enforcement officials informed of the incident said that a guy opened fire at numerous sites, including a bowling alley in Lewiston, resulting in 22 fatalities and 50–60 injuries. The figures, according to the officials, were preliminary and subject to change.
In a Facebook post, Lewiston Police stated that they were handling an active shooter situation inside the bowling alley Sparetime Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grille.
Due to multiple active shooter situations, the second-largest city in Maine was ordered to remain under lockdown by the Maine State Police.
“We are currently dealing with an active shooter incident (Schemengees and Sparetime Recreation). Please stay off the roads to allow emergency responders access to the hospitals,” police said
In response to the advisory notice, the department released a picture of a car they are searching for as part of their investigation.
Additionally, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office posted a photo of the suspect on Facebook for identification, advising anyone with additional information to send an email to dispatch@androscoggincountymaine.gov or message them on Facebook Messenger.
Shortly after 8 p.m., the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning for Lewiston, stating that law enforcement was looking into the gunshot incidents. The culprit, according to the sheriff’s office, is still at large.
“Law enforcement in Androscoggin County are investigating two active shooter events,” the post read. “We are encouraging all businesses to lock down and or close while we investigate. The suspect is still at large,” it read
