Telecom Users Decry Poor Network Amid Tariff Hike, Demand Improved Service Delivery

0

Telecommunication subscribers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed frustration over persistent poor network services despite recent hikes in data and call tariffs by mobile network operators.

In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, several consumers lamented the deteriorating quality of service, describing it as “epileptic” and “unacceptable,” especially after paying higher rates for subscriptions.

Mr. Ogah Paul, a visibly frustrated subscriber, shared his experience of being unable to browse the internet despite having sufficient data on his device.

“All they do is drain our data without delivering the promised service. I feel like crying because of this network issue. Since morning, I’ve been receiving server errors,” he said.

Paul added that simple tasks like downloading videos take almost an entire day, while calls fail to connect and internet access remains erratic.

Echoing similar sentiments, Mr. Victor James complained that data plans often fail to reflect immediately after purchase, sometimes taking up to 24 hours.

“I have enough data, but I cannot use it the way I want. The network is terrible. It’s frustrating,” he said, calling for urgent intervention to restore reliable service.

Their concerns follow a statement issued by the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, on February 6, 2024, in which he assured Nigerians that the Commission would hold service providers accountable for subpar delivery.

While many subscribers expressed dissatisfaction, some shared more positive experiences. Ms. Josephine Tanko praised her network provider, describing it as “fast and reliable.”

“It’s the best for me, and I’ll continue to use it over others. But I urge other service providers to step up and meet customer expectations,” she said.

As demand for seamless digital connectivity grows, subscribers are urging telecom operators to match their service quality with the recent hike in tariffs to ensure value for money.
