Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially handed over three newly acquired train sets for the Blue Line rail project to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), marking a major milestone in the state’s push toward modern, efficient public transportation.
The brand-new trains, recently imported by the state government, were unveiled during an inspection tour of the Blue Line terminal at Iganmu on Thursday.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended President Bola Tinubu for his instrumental role in the realization of the project, describing it as a shining example of federal-state synergy in delivering impactful infrastructure.
“This achievement reflects our shared vision with President Tinubu to transform Lagos through sustainable development. The Blue Line represents a major leap forward in our drive to modernize Lagos’ transport network,” the Governor said.
He emphasized that the introduction of the new trains will ease traffic congestion and significantly cut commute times for residents. Sanwo-Olu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining affordable train fares through government subsidies.
“Our goal is to make public transportation not just efficient, but accessible and inclusive for every Lagosian,” he assured.
The Blue Line is one of the flagship components of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) project, designed to provide a fast, safe, and reliable alternative to road travel across the state.
