The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage across parts of the North-East, scheduled to last from 10:00 a.m. on June 10 to 5:00 p.m. on June 14, 2025. The outage is part of ongoing construction work at the new Bauchi 330kV transmission substation.
In a notice signed by TCN’s Regional Operations Manager, Bauchi Region, Engr. J.O. Joseph, the company explained that the disruption is necessary to allow contractors erect 330kV Turn-In and Turn-Out transmission towers. The project also involves crossing the existing Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV transmission line, which will be temporarily shut down.
As a result, the Jos-Gombe single circuit (SC) line will be out of service throughout the five-day period. This will lead to total blackout in Damaturu, Molai, Yola, and Jalingo, while Gombe and Biu substations will receive partial supply from the Dadin Kowa Hydropower Plant. Additionally, Baga Road substation will be powered via the MEPP network.
The Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV line will be specifically taken out on June 14 to facilitate the final phase of the crossing operation.
This development adds to a series of power disruptions in the region. In October 2024, a major blackout affected 17 northern states following the collapse of the 330kV Ugwaji–Apir double circuit lines.
TCN has appealed for patience from residents and businesses in the affected areas, assuring that the upgrade is part of efforts to enhance power reliability and capacity across the North-East.
