The Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) is set to airlift 10,000 Christians for the 2024 holy pilgrimage, with flights scheduled to begin on December 22. Each intending pilgrim paid N3 million, bringing the total amount to N30 billion for the Nigerian contingent.
Bishop Stephen Adegbite, NCPC Executive Secretary, announced the details on Sunday, confirming that pilgrims will visit holy sites in both Jordan and Turkey. This pilgrimage marks the first Christian pilgrimage of 2024, following multiple delays earlier in the year.
While the President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, were initially expected to lead the pilgrimage, these plans have since changed.
The pilgrimage was originally planned for March, but delays forced its rescheduling. In addition to the postponement of the Easter pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan, the cost of the trip was adjusted from N3 million to N4.8 million in May. However, Bishop Adegbite reassured the public that the pilgrimage would still take place before the year’s end.
The NCPC has confirmed that the 10-day pilgrimage will be conducted smoothly, providing pilgrims the opportunity to visit significant religious sites before returning to Nigeria.
