Lagos-Govt-Removes-Over-200-Unregistered-Vehicles-Off-Roads

In an effort to improve road safety, security, and transportation sector regulation, the Lagos State Government, through its Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has launched a crackdown on unregistered and unpainted automobiles operating throughout the metropolis.

In less than 48 hours, this operation has led to the arrest of more than 200 unregistered and unpainted automobiles, which have already been removed from the road.

The operation was allegedly led by Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, who revealed the figures on Tuesday in Alausa, Ikeja.

He stated that unregistered vehicles pose a significant risk to road safety and security because they frequently avoid necessary inspections and regulations, jeopardizing their roadworthiness and that the enforcement exercise is intended to correct this issue by ensuring that all vehicles on Lagos State roads comply with the necessary registration and licensing requirements.

Giwa went on to say that the enforcement operation revealed that certain transport companies in the CMS, Obalende, Ajah, and Ojo Cantonment corridors were operating their fleet of vehicles without proper documentation, emphasizing that the State Government is taking this matter seriously and will hold such companies accountable for their actions. Transport businesses discovered operating without the necessary papers will face legal ramifications, he stressed.

In addition, the Special Adviser underlined the importance of vehicle registration and compliance with transportation legislation, adding that impounded vehicles will not be freed until they have been properly registered and have met all relevant safety criteria.

He did, however, reiterate the State Government’s unwavering commitment to improving road safety and ensuring that all transport operators follow the necessary regulations, stating that the ongoing crackdown is one of the State Government’s efforts to create safer and more efficient transportation systems in Lagos State.
