In a significant gesture, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group and Africa’s richest man, has named the road leading to the Dangote Refinery after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dangote made the announcement on Thursday during the launch of the reconstruction of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos State. The billionaire industrialist praised recent improvements in fuel distribution, noting that many previously inactive petrol stations across Nigeria have resumed operations.
“There is no more shortage, no more queues, and there will never be,” Dangote declared, assuring Nigerians of steady fuel supply moving forward.
He also addressed concerns over rising fuel prices, asserting that petrol in Nigeria remains relatively cheap compared to other countries in the region.
“Some people here in Nigeria might think that petrol at less than ₦900 is expensive, but there is nowhere in West Africa where petrol is not selling above $1, which is about ₦1,600,” he said.
Currently, petrol prices in Nigeria range between ₦800 and over ₦1,000 per litre.
The renaming of the road and Dangote’s remarks highlight the strategic importance of the refinery project and its role in reshaping Nigeria’s energy landscape.
