The N800 billion 2024 budget that Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara signed into law was declared void on Monday by the Federal High Court in Abuja. Four members of the state House of Assembly were given a N800 billion 2024 Appropriations Bill by the governor in December. The budget was signed into law by Fubara after it was passed by Congress.
Following the attempt to impeach Fubara by 27 legislators loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, the Rivers Assembly became polarized. The presiding judge, James Omotosho, held that everything done by the four lawmakers was null and void.
The court also recognised Martin Amaewhule as the speaker of the state assembly.
