Airtel Nigeria has announced a significant revision to its data pricing structure, with tariffs increasing by up to 50 percent across various data bundles. The move, which aligns with industry concerns over rising operational costs, also includes a recent increase in voice call tariffs.
Although the company has not released an official statement, an Airtel official confirmed the adjustment, attributing the hike to escalating inflation and foreign exchange challenges. The revised plans offer a range of options for subscribers, including daily and weekly data packages priced from N50 for 40MB to N1500 for 5GB, with additional benefits for YouTube and social media usage.
Airtel’s competitor, MTN, has also raised its data and call tariffs in line with the approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), citing similar factors driving the increases.
As communication costs rise, subscribers may face greater financial pressure, with telecom operators striving to manage the impact of inflation, forex volatility, and the cost of network expansion.
