The Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri has said he will appeal the Monday’s judgment of the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja that nullified the election that brought him to power.
Diri, through his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, reacted to this ruling and said he in a statement that he had instructed his lawyers to file the necessary papers to appeal the tribunal ruling.
He spoke shortly after the tribunal ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, wrongly excluded the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, ANDP candidate in the November 16, 2019 election.
Diri further said in his statement that he has implicit confidence in the judiciary that he would triumph in the end.
Governor Diri urged the members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and his supporters not to panic and to continue to remain calm and law-abiding.
In a related development, the immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Seriake Dickson, also urged Bayelsa people not to be perturbed by the judgment of the tribunal.
