The Kogi State Government has successfully rescued six more students who were abducted from Kogi State University, increasing the total number of rescued students to twenty. This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo.
“Our data shows that there are four students yet to be found,” Fanwo stated.
He detailed the circumstances of the rescue, explaining that a fierce gun battle ensued between security agents and the kidnappers, forcing the kidnappers to abandon the students due to the superior firepower. Some of the kidnappers reportedly escaped with severe injuries.
Last Thursday, police reported the rescue of 14 students, and the Commissioner confirmed that the families of the recently rescued six students have verified their safe return home.
Governor Usman Ododo expressed his profound gratitude to the Joint Forces responsible for the operation and urged them to persist in their efforts until all kidnapped students are recovered.
“We wish to assure the public that the security architecture around our schools has been recalibrated for efficiency and early warning alarm to prevent future occurrences,” Fanwo added.
The Kogi State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all students in the state.
