Aircraft for Nigerian Routes
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on Turkish authorities to address transit visa problems that leave Nigerians stranded in Istanbul and to upgrade aircraft used for flights to Nigeria.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, Keyamo also highlighted the need for Turkish Airlines to respect Nigerian passengers, following a standoff with the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE).
The statement detailed a meeting between Keyamo and a Turkish Airlines delegation led by Vice President for Africa, Hilemet Mesut Turkseven. The delegation included General Managers for Lagos and Abuja, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Turkish embassy, Imdat Karakoc.
Keyamo emphasized the importance of maintaining high customer service standards and dignity for Nigerian passengers. He thanked Turkish Airlines for their cooperation during recent union disruptions and assured there would be no further disruptions as the issue is before an industrial court.
Keyamo also put forward three key demands: upgrading aircraft used on Nigerian routes, resolving transit visa issues causing delays in Istanbul, and supporting local caterers by serving Nigerian cuisine on return flights.
Karakoc assured Keyamo that these concerns would be discussed with Turkish authorities and promised necessary adjustments to improve service quality and aircraft standards.
