Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Masari, has declared that President Bola Tinubu possesses the most comprehensive development plans he has witnessed from any Nigerian leader in his nearly four decades of political involvement.
The former Katsina State governor made the remarks while addressing a gathering of women at a public function in Kaduna. The video of his comments was published Tuesday on Facebook by Hausa-language media platform, HM Arewa.
“Even if I were asked to swear, on my age and my political involvement for almost 40 years, I can confidently say I have never seen a president with better plans to make Nigeria great than Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Masari said. “I have simply never seen anyone like him.”
Masari, who was appointed Deputy Director-General, Parliamentary Mobilisation, of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in August, used the occasion to push back against critics who argue the administration has underperformed.
He drew comparisons to past administrations, noting that former President Olusegun Obasanjo faced accusations of sectionalism and tribalism after his first term, while similar criticisms trailed Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency. He argued the same pattern was now playing out against Tinubu.
“The people who claim that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done nothing are the kind of people who never appreciate when someone is doing well,” he said.
The former governor also took aim at the use of religious and ethnic sentiment in political discourse, questioning why faith was so often framed along tribal lines. “Is religion exclusive to the Hausa, the Yoruba, or even the Igbo?” he asked.
He appealed directly to the women in attendance, urging preachers among them to use their influence within their households to discourage divisive rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections, telling them they were better positioned than anyone to speak to their husbands and children on the matter.
“This divisive talk is only being pushed by people who are deeply selfish,” he added.
Masari served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and as governor of Katsina State from 2015 to 2023. The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
