2027: No Party Can Match Wike’s Political Strength, Arewa Youth Group Declares

The Arewa Youth for Peaceful Coexistence has declared that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, remains one of Nigeria’s most influential political figures, insisting that no political party can easily withstand his political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group made the assertion in a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Chairman, Haruna Bature, while reacting to comments by the Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding the 2027 elections and Wike’s political relevance.

According to the group, while political parties are entitled to express their opinions in a democracy, it was necessary to “set the record straight” in the interest of peace, national unity and constructive democratic engagement.

Bature said Wike’s political journey—from serving as a Local Government Chairman and Chief of Staff to completing two terms as Governor of Rivers State and now serving as Minister of the FCT—reflects his leadership capacity, grassroots appeal and ability to deliver democratic dividends.

He noted that the minister’s record in infrastructure development, youth empowerment and political organisation has earned him widespread support across ethnic, regional and political lines, making him a formidable force ahead of the next general election.

The group further urged the ADC and other political stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements capable of heating up the political atmosphere, stressing that preparations for the 2027 elections should be anchored on issue-based campaigns, respect for democratic institutions and peaceful coexistence.

Reaffirming its commitment to national unity and peaceful democratic participation, the group maintained that elections should be a contest of ideas rather than a platform for insults, intimidation or divisive rhetoric.

It expressed confidence that Nigerians would ultimately decide the outcome of the 2027 elections by voting for candidates they consider competent, capable and of good character.
