The family of the late Miss Mary Habila, the nurse who died at the residence of the Minister of Works, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), demanding the immediate release of her remains for burial.
Led by her father, Tanko Habila, the family, alongside their legal representatives, submitted the petition at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday before addressing journalists.
Speaking after the family’s lawyer, Tanko Habila lamented that nearly two weeks after his daughter’s death, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to release her body to the family.
He said the family was not requesting an autopsy but simply wanted to give their daughter a dignified burial.
“As we are standing here, somebody can fall and die. It has happened. All we want is her body to be buried,” Habila said.
The family appealed to the police authorities to facilitate the release of Mary Habila’s remains without further delay.
Further details are expected as the matter unfolds.
