Kwankwasiyya Dismisses Defection Rumours, Insists Kwankwaso Remains Committed to NDC

The Kwankwasiyya movement has dismissed reports suggesting that former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged disagreements surrounding the party’s candidate lists in Kano State.

Reacting to the claims in an interview on Monday, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya faction, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, described the reports as unverified rumours being circulated on social media.

“Well, this is still a rumour. It is just being circulated on social media,” Mohammed said.

He maintained that the faction conducted its primary elections in accordance with the provisions of the law and the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The reality is that we conducted our primaries according to the law and in line with the INEC timetable. We held our primaries on May 29, just as was done across the country,” he stated.

According to Mohammed, the primaries were preceded by extensive consultations and consensus-building efforts that led to the emergence of candidates for various elective positions without significant opposition.

“Before that date, there were processes that led to consensus and candidates emerged for different positions. There were no complaints from party members or aspirants during that period,” he explained.

He noted that the exercise was successfully concluded and that the list of candidates had already been forwarded to the party leadership for further action.

“I believe we conducted the process successfully and submitted the list to the party. It is now left for the party to do what it considers appropriate,” Mohammed added.

The spokesperson further stressed that there had been no discussions within the faction regarding any plan by Kwankwaso to quit the NDC, insisting that reports of a possible defection remain speculative and unfounded.
