A chieftain of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Datti Baba-Ahmed, has expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, declaring that he would emerge victorious over President Bola Tinubu and Labour Party’s Peter Obi in a free, fair and credible election.
Baba-Ahmed made the assertion during an interview on Symfoni TV, where he described Duke as one of the most qualified political figures in Nigeria and argued that many Nigerians have yet to fully appreciate his leadership credentials and national appeal.
His remarks come shortly after Duke emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
“In a free and fair election in Nigeria, Donald Duke is the winner,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He further noted that Nigerians underestimated Peter Obi’s popularity and political strength ahead of the 2023 presidential election, warning that a similar miscalculation could be made regarding Duke’s chances in future elections.
According to Baba-Ahmed, Duke possesses the experience, competence and broad-based appeal required to lead the country, insisting that his political potential should not be overlooked.
The comments have added to the growing conversation around possible contenders for Nigeria’s next presidential election and the role alternative political parties may play in reshaping the country’s political landscape.
