FCT Polls: PDP Outperforms Opposition Coalition, Says Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared that the performance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council elections demonstrates the party’s continued strength, placing it ahead of the emerging opposition coalition.

Speaking to journalists on Friday after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Mohammed maintained that despite internal challenges and defections, the PDP remains a dominant political force across the country.

According to him, the party’s showing in the FCT elections underscores its resilience and grassroots presence.

“The PDP is still standing. We deserve commendation for what we achieved in the FCT. At least, we are bigger than the coalition that is everywhere,” he said.

He emphasized that the PDP’s brand has endured for over two decades, surviving leadership disputes and legal battles while maintaining a nationwide structure.

“It is a party that is present in every ward. It has a brand that has survived more than twenty years,” Mohammed added.

The governor pointed to the party’s victory in one area council chairmanship seat and the election of about sixteen councillors in the FCT as evidence of progress.

“Our outing in the FCT, where we won one council chairmanship and about sixteen councillorship seats, shows that we are moving forward,” he stated.

Mohammed also dismissed suggestions that he feels isolated amid shifting political alliances, noting that his focus remains on consolidating electoral strength at the grassroots level in Bauchi State.

“I’m not feeling lonely. I am in my state, ensuring that I observe and understand how elections are won from the polling units,” he said.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), which serves as a platform for a coalition of opposition figures, failed to secure any council seat in the FCT elections.
