ADC Sounds Alarm: APC’s Electoral Act Move Could “Kill Democracy”

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the controversial passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the National Assembly.

Speaking on Wednesday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi accused the APC of undermining Nigeria’s democratic principles. In a post on his X account, Abdullahi described the level of impunity exhibited by the ruling party as alarming, warning that it should not be allowed to “become the death of our democracy.”

He alleged that despite the APC controlling nearly all state governorships, the party remained wary of conducting a free and fair election. Abdullahi emphasized that Nigerians would resist any form of tyranny, drawing parallels with previous democratic challenges in the country.

“With this level of impunity, we pray that the APC does not become the death of our democracy. Almost all the governors are in their party, yet they are afraid of a free and fair election. But Nigerians will never surrender to tyranny. We have seen this before,” he stated.

This latest criticism highlights growing tensions over electoral reforms and concerns about the safeguarding of democratic processes in Nigeria.
