Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to strategically align the state with the federal government to accelerate development.

The announcement was made during the 2026 Grand Rally at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, in front of a massive crowd, according to a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that Kano, being a large and strategically significant state, cannot afford political disconnection from the centre of national governance. He stressed that his decision to join the APC was driven not by personal ambition, but by the responsibility to position Kano for effective engagement, opportunities, and tangible benefits for its citizens.

“It is about placing Kano in a position where it can fully participate in national development and secure a better future for its citizens,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, Yusuf noted that the administration’s reforms require diligent governance and careful implementation to benefit the nation. He added that, with party support and federal cooperation, Kano is now better positioned for progress, stability, and confidence.

The governor also expressed gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima and the governors of Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, and Plateau for attending the rally and supporting his administration. He commended former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and members of the National and State Assemblies for their commitment to the party’s growth in Kano.

Receiving Governor Yusuf into the party, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda called on all party stakeholders to rally behind him. In separate remarks, former governor Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Chairman Abbas, ALGON Chairperson Hajiya Sa’adatu Yushau Soja, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and several lawmakers pledged their full loyalty, support, and cooperation to the governor.

The event underscored a message of unity, strength, and a shared commitment to ensuring political stability and sustainable development in Kano State.
