Pete Edochie Quashes Death Rumours Again, Prepares to Celebrate 79th Birthday

Abuja, Nigeria – Legendary Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has once again dismissed circulating rumours of his death, calling out what he described as recurring hoaxes that have plagued him for years.

The 78-year-old veteran, widely known by his screen name Ebubedike, remains active in the entertainment industry and continues to receive accolades, including the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and the AMVCA Industry Merit Award.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Vanguard, Edochie expressed frustration at the persistent false claims, revealing that he has been the subject of death rumours at least seven times. “I’m alive and will die when my maker calls me home,” he said.

He recounted some of the most notable hoaxes, including false reports of dying abroad, perishing in a plane crash from Enugu to Ethiopia, and even claims from Ghana that he was already in the grave.

Reflecting on the resilience of his family, Edochie credited their longevity for his own vitality. “On March 7, I will be 79. My father lived to 96, so longevity runs in my family,” he said. He also shared a lesson from the late Nnamdi Azikwe: those who wish others’ deaths often face misfortune themselves.

Despite repeated false reports, Pete Edochie remains a celebrated figure in Nollywood, continuing to inspire generations of actors and fans alike.
