Yola, Adamawa State — Abba Abubakar, a son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abba joined the APC on Monday after obtaining his membership card during the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise at his Gwadabawa Ward in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Following his registration, he proceeded to the APC state secretariat along Scope Road in Yola, where he was received by the Adamawa State Chairman of the party, Idris Shuaibu, alongside members of the State Executive Council.
Speaking after his defection, Abba said he was motivated to join the APC by what he described as the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, Tinubu remains the best option for Nigeria at this time and in the foreseeable future.
Abba also pledged his support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
His move comes six months after his father, Atiku Abubakar, left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where the former vice president is believed to be positioning for another presidential run in 2027.
Reacting to the defection, APC Chairman in Adamawa State, Idris Shuaibu, said the party welcomed Abba’s decision and commended his confidence in the Tinubu administration. He added that the APC leadership is pleased to have Abba contribute his experience to the party.
