Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) to turn a new leaf, embrace peace, and respect the judgement of the Federal High Court which recognised the Nenadi Usman-led leadership of the party.
Reacting to the court ruling, Governor Otti said the judgement was sound and in harmony with an earlier decision of the Supreme Court. He urged members of the Abure faction to sheathe their swords and conduct themselves in a law-abiding manner in the interest of the party.
The governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, assured that the Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party was open to forgiveness and reintegration of the Abure faction, provided they renounce actions capable of undermining the party’s unity.
Otti also expressed gratitude to what he described as lovers of democracy for standing by the Labour Party during what he called its most troubling period.
He further appealed to those behind what he termed frivolous litigations against the party to respect the judgement of the court and allow peace to return to the party.
The Abia governor charged the national leadership of the Labour Party to see the legal victory as an opportunity to reposition and rejig the party by promoting peace, unity, and justice in line with its constitution and founding ideals.
